Population is our first major unit in Human Geography. We will learn that everything in the world is affected by population. Politics, agriculture, the development of cities, the environment, and culture are all directly linked to a countries population history and future. In this unit, we will look at the influences that population has on the world. We will use models that will allow us to understand information about a country just based on its demographics. We will learn about where the world currently is and what challenges lie ahead for because of population.

This model will be one of the key things that we study and analyze during this unit. This is the demographic transition model. Countries can be tracked based on their progression through the different stages. Each stage has different factors affecting how its population is either expanding, stabilizing, or declining.

This is the other key model that we can look at in our analysis of population. These are called population pyramids. These pyramids are made by breaking down age groups into sections. These age groups are then split between male (blue) and female (pink). Based on the pyramid of a country, we can determine their population future as well as reference the demographic transition model to better understand other factors related to population.
